Timeline of Milestones
1900s — A Vision for the PacificThe need for a training school in Fiji for Seventh-day Adventists was recognised at the turn of the century by pioneer missionary John E. Fulton. Property was secured at Buresala on the island of Ovalau.
1905 — FoundingThe Buresala Training School was opened. Other training institutions were later established in Navuso (Wainibuka, Vitilevu), Samambula (Suva) and Vatuvonu (Vanualevu).
1940–1941 — Relocation & New BeginningsTo respond to rising education standards, the church consolidated its educational work in Fiji. A site on Kings Road, Tailevu, was secured. Several buildings from the old school sites were dismantled, transported and reconstructed. The new institution, named in honour of Pastor John E. Fulton, opened in 1941 and quickly drew enrolments from all parts of the South Pacific.
1987 — International AccreditationFulton's programmes were accredited by the Accreditation Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities (AAA) — a professional organisation that peer-reviews all Seventh-day Adventist institutions worldwide. SPATS also accredited the Diploma in Theology the same year.
2012 — University College StatusFulton was academically registered and recognised as a University College by the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF). Qualifications were placed on the Fiji Register of Qualifications in 2015.
2013 — Regional PartnershipsFulton signed a memorandum of understanding to work collaboratively with other Adventist Higher Education institutions in Australia and the South Pacific, including Pacific Adventist University (PNG), Avondale University College (Australia) and Mamarapha College (Australia).
2014 — New Campus, Sabeto, NadiFulton relocated from Tailevu to a new property at Sabeto in Nadi, providing a modern campus environment for its growing student body.
2018 — University RegistrationOn 21 November 2018, the College was registered by the Higher Education Commission Fiji as Fulton Adventist University College.
2025 — Growing Global PartnershipsA Statement of Understanding was signed with Southern Adventist University (USA) to partner in digital media curriculum. Fulton is also in the process of signing an MOU with the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) in the area of research.
